Published Tuesday, November 10, 2009 7:00 am
IFL President Andrew Langer interviewed Professor Art Langer (his father) on the ongoing controversy regarding phthalates, a class of chemicals used to soften plastics for consumer products. Despites studies undercutting the cancer risk to humans, there remains an ongoing effort to ban the use of these plasticizers, which have ameliorated other risks. The Langers discuss comparative risk assessment, science-based public policy, and touch on the impact the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act has had on preventing the sale of classic books.
